General Counselling
Sometimes an individual may feel sad but not depressed or maybe feel on edge but not anxious. However something is not quite right and assistance is required to help alleviate this confusion
Counselling can help individuals in many different ways for many different issues. While counselling is often associated with certain issues like depression and anxiety, counselling can also assist in other ways, for instance:
assist with an individuals particular life dilemmas, life transitions or important decisions, for example maybe dealing with difficult neighbours, deciding when to retire, or whether to have an optional medical procedure undertaken.
improve an individuals career and job-situation. Improving a job situation can often be a challenging task, for example finding a new career path or maybe deciding to start an own business. It might just mean improving a current job environment. Individuals can spend most of their time within a workplace so this part of one’s life can greatly impact our mood and day to day functioning.
help with insight and understanding. Some individuals may feel the need to explore questions like “why did this happen to me?” or “why am I like this?”. Investigating problematic thoughts, feelings, or behaviours can support an individuals continuous understanding of self; for example the reasons why certain conflicts arise, or one’s motivations to undertake a certain behaviour. Understanding yourself and the world around you better will help you thrive more in life.
assist with building self-esteem. Many individuals struggle with self-esteem challenges and there are clear links between self-esteem, mental health and emotional well-being. Low self-esteem can lead to feelings of inadequacy, self-doubt, and worthlessness. Therapy provides a safe space for individuals to explore the underlying causes of their low self-esteem, challenge negative self-beliefs, and develop a more positive and realistic self-image. Increasing self-esteem will increase the likelihood of happiness and success in one’s life.
help with self-acceptance. Sometimes in life an individual will go through experiences that they feel shame or guilt about which impacts on their ability to feel happiness or joy. Counselling can help an individual find acceptance through self-forgiveness, self-compassion, and assist in moving on from past disappointments.
This is not an exhaustive list but serves to show that counselling can assist one’s life journey in a number of ways. If you are still unsure whether counselling be helpful to you, contact J.B. Therapy for a free no-obligation consultation to clarify your concerns.

In a car, your therapist is a passenger in the front seat, but you’re behind the wheel. A passenger can offer assistance with reading the map and providing directions, but it’s up to you to choose the turns you’ll take, and ultimately, the destination.
